Noted as one of the top plein air competitions in the U.S, this exciting week of activities, and over $30,000 in prize money, is possible because of committed volunteers and generous financial support from the community. In 2015, local arts patron Elta Joyce McAfee gifted an endowment to the museum ensuring the future of EnPleinAirTEXAS. To honor her parents and family name, the Grand Prize is named "The Elta Joyce Murphey Award".
Patrons of EnPleinAirTEXAS enjoy exclusive events with the artists as well as help support a singular cultural and historical art experience unmatched by any other event in the country. The artists donate a significant portion of each painting sold to the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, benefitting arts education for thousands of students and adults in the Concho Valley.
